Travel Tips for Moms
If you’re planning a mom vacation, here are some travel tips for moms to help you make the most of your trip.
Packing Essentials
When packing for your mom vacation, you’ve got to bring the essentials. These items are always on my list:
Comfortable shoes: If you haven’t hiked in forever, make sure you have comfortable shoes. Your feet will thank you later.
Sunscreen: If sunbathing is on the agenda, don’t skimp on the sunscreen. We aren’t 16-years-old anymore. Keep those wrinkles and skin cancer at bay.
First-aid kit: Even though you left the kids at home, accidents can happen. Bring a first-aid kit with items like band-aids, pain relievers, and antiseptic wipes.
Snacks and Drinks: Get whatever YOU want! No having to share your candy bar or chips with the kids. You can enjoy wine and ice cream with no guilt!
Entertainment: If relaxation is on the agenda, do what you want to do. Don’t be like me and accidentally leave your new book at home! (insert sad face)
Safety Precautions
Safety should be a top priority when traveling, especially when you’re alone. Here are some safety precautions to take:
Research your destination: Before you travel, research your destination to learn about any potential safety concerns. Big cities tend to pose more threats. Be smart and know what areas to avoid and be careful when going out at night.
Know emergency numbers: Make sure you know the emergency contact numbers in case you lose your phone.
Bring personal protective devices: Stick a can of pepper spray and a personal safety alarm, like this Byrdie one. You can’t be too cautious when traveling by yourself.
Check-in: If you’re traveling solo, make sure you check in with a family member at home and send them your itinerary.
Budgeting Tips
Traveling can be expensive, but there are ways to save money. You don’t have to stay in the nicest hotel to have an incredible getaway. Traveling on a budget is doable and won’t make your trip any less memorable! Here are some of my top budgeting tips that I’ve been using for years:
Plan ahead: Research your destination and plan your activities ahead of time to avoid overspending.
Use travel credit cards: You can rack up a lot of air miles and hotel points when you use travel credit cards. We saved THOUSANDS of dollars on a family trip to Europe with all our accumulated air miles and hotel points!
Use coupons and discounts: Look for coupons and discounts for attractions and restaurants.
Pack snacks and eat in: Bringing snacks or preparing food in your hotel room or Air BnB can help you save lots of money on food.
Use public transportation: Using public transportation can be cheaper than renting a car or taking taxis. If you’re in NYC or other big cities, take advantage of their mass transit system.
By following these travel tips, you can have a stress-free and enjoyable mom getaway.
